Private Banking
In Private Banking, Credit Suisse provides comprehensive advice and a broad range of investment products and services tailored to the complex needs of high-net-worth individuals globally. Credit Suisse's structured advisory process encompasses both asset and liability management. Furthermore, Credit Suisse is a leading provider of innovative alternative investment products. Wealth management solutions include tax planning; pension planning; life insurance solutions; wealth and inheritance advice, trusts and foundations. Credit Suisse offers multiple booking platforms and global execution capabilities. In Switzerland, Credit Suisse supplies banking products and services to private banking clients as well as to business and retail clients.
Investment Banking
In Investment Banking, Credit Suisse offers securities products and financial advisory services to corporations, governments and institutional investors. Operating in 57 locations across 26 countries, Credit Suisse's investment banking business specializes in innovative solutions, drawing on expertise from across the full spectrum of products: debt and equity underwriting, sales and trading, mergers and acquisitions, investment research, correspondent and prime brokerage services.
Asset Management
In its asset management business, Credit Suisse offers products across the full spectrum of investment classes, ranging from equities, fixed income and multiple-asset class products, to alternative investments such as real estate, hedge funds, private equity and volatility management. Credit Suisse’s asset management business manages portfolios, mutual funds, and other investment vehicles for a broad spectrum of clients ranging from governments, institutions and corporations to private individuals. With offices focused on asset management in 18 countries, Credit Suisse’s asset management business is operated as a globally integrated network to deliver the bank’s best investment ideas and capabilities to clients around the world.
The asset management business of Credit Suisse is comprised of a number of legal entities around the world that are subject to distinct regulatory requirements; certain asset management products and services may not be available in all jurisdictions or to all client types.

Net writedowns in leveraged finance and structured products of CHF 5.3 billion in 1Q08. Continued significant reduction in risk exposures during 1Q08: risk exposures declined 41% in leveraged finance, 25% in commercial mortgages. Other than the areas affected directly by the credit crisis, most of our businesses performed well in 1Q08, with revenues near or above those in 1Q07. Steady inflows in Private Banking: net new assets of CHF 17.1 billion in 1Q08, including CHF 13.5 billion in Wealth Management. Strong BIS tier 1 ratio under Basel II of 9.8% as of the end of 1Q08.
